"The Family" I Lisbon

I want to tell you a secret, a little secret: I really love Lisbon. Of course, it's her hometown - you may think - but there's something stronger than that.
When I travel I miss my family, I suppose that's a common feelling, and I miss Lisbon.
This city has a particular smell, something I cannot explain to you in words, it's in the air. There's a scent that I believe is related to its proximity to the Tagus River.
Anyway, this post is about "The Family".
"The Family" is a statue located in the middle of Francesinhas Garden in Lisbon (please see page of photos Lisbon I São Bento). It is made of marble and a work of a famous Portuguese sculptor, Leopoldo de Almeida.
The statue represents a mother and a father with a son. Both parents seem to be protecting the child and this stone Family is looking in direction not of the Tagus River, neither of Estrela Garden not even in direction of ISEG (Economics and Management Superior Institute) that is in fact behind them.
For me, "The Family" seems to be bowing and awaiting for something, turned in direction of the Assembly of the Republic (Portuguese Parliament). This sculpture is dated of 1947.
Note: I have done some research on the net, trying to find some more information about the statue and the sculptor but I found nothing in english, sorry.

Eu gostaria de vos contar um segredo, um pequeno segredo: eu gosto muito de Lisboa. Claro, é a sua cidade natal - podem pensar - mas há algo mais forte do que isso.
Quando viajo, eu tenho saudades da minha família, suponho que seja um sentimento comum, e de Lisboa. A cidade tem um cheiro especial, algo que não consigo arranjar palavras para explicar, está no ar. Há um aroma na cidade que eu creio que possa estar relacionado com a sua proximidade com o rio Tejo.
De qualquer forma, este post é sobre "A Família".
"A Família" é uma estátua localizada no centro do Jardim das Francesinhas em Lisboa (por favor ver página de fotos Lisboa I São Bento). É feita de mármore e um trabalho de um famoso escultor Português, Leopoldo de Almeida.
A estátua representa uma mãe e um pai com o seu filho. Os pais parecem estar a proteger a criança e esta Família de pedra está a olhar na direção não do Rio Tejo, nem do Jardim da Estrela. nem sequer na direção do ISEG (Instituto Superior de Economia e Gestão), que está de fato por detrás deles.
Para mim, "A Família" parece estar a fazer uma vénia e a aguardar alguma coisa, virada diretamente para a Assembleia da Republica. Esta escultura é datada de 1947.
